The following resolution was proudly presented by the members of Mike’s home Lodge Saugus-Everett #642 in Massachusetts.

Thus began a year of excitement for GER Mike and his wife Donna as they traverse this great country witnessing first hand all of the good works that Elks do and spreading the good news of our order as national Ambassadors of Elkdom.

Michael F. Zellen

FOR

GRAND EXALTED RULER

 

Whereas, The Officers and Members of Saugus-Everett, Massachusetts, Lodge No. 642 do recognize and appreciate the dedication and leadership rendered by Michael F. Zellen to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America, the Massachusetts Elks Association, the Saugus-Everett Lodge, the City of Everett, the City of Peabody, the Town of Saugus, and surrounding communities, and

Whereas, He was initiated into the Everett MA Lodge of Elks #642 on November 17, 1968, served as Esquire before proceeding through the chairs to serve as Exalted Ruler in 1977-1978, and then served as Lodge Trustee, Secretary, and is currently serving as Treasurer and House Committee Chairman, and he has been recognized a number of times for his service to the Lodge, including being named Officer of the Year, Elk of the Year, and having been awarded Honorary Life Membership, and

Whereas, He has served the Massachusetts Elks Association as Massachusetts Elks Scholarship Fund Director, State Treasurer 1984-1992, State President 1995-1996, State Charity Fund Advisory Committee 1986-present, State Convention Chairman 1997-2007, State President’s Advisory Committee 1996-present, Chairman of the Grand Exalted Ruler’s Reception for many years, and was selected ‘Massachusetts State Elk of the Year’ in 1997-1998, and

Whereas, He has served the Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Massachusetts East District 1983-1984, Area Special Representative of Massachusetts Area 3 1996-2002, Grand Lodge Committeeman on Lodge Activities / State Associations 1998-2000, Area 1 Representative on the Board of Grand Trustees from 2010-2014, having served as Secretary of the Board from 2010-2013 and Vice-Chairman in 2014, Special Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler 2007-present, and

Whereas, He is a graduate of Suffolk University receiving both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Business Administration and has worked in the Banking Industry for the last 44 years in both a Regulatory capacity for the Massachusetts Office of the Commissioner of Banks and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and as a Banker holding the positions of Treasurer, Chief Financial Officer, and is currently serving as Vice-President and Community Reinvestment Act Officer of  North Shore Bank, and has served both the Cities of Everett and Peabody Massachusetts as a member of the City Council,  the Everett School Committee and various local Boards for many years, and he has served as an officer, director, or board member of various youth, community, civic and professional organizations, and

Whereas, He has achieved the foregoing with the support of his wife of over 45 years, Donna, a Member and Trustee of the Saugus-Everett Lodge, and with the further support of their daughters: Jennifer, a Past Exalted Ruler of the Saugus-Everett Lodge, Susan, Michele and Amy, all Members of the Saugus-Everett Lodge of Elks #642, and

Whereas, He has exhibited the qualities of leadership expected of a national Officer, now therefore

Be it resolved, that the Officers and Members of the Saugus-Everett Lodge of Elks #642 are honored to present to the 2016 Grand Lodge Convention assembled in Houston, Texas, our Member, Michael F. Zellen, as a candidate for the office of Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America for the fraternal year 2016-2017.
