GER Mike and First Lady Donna’s visit to Connecticut
September 25 – September 26, 2016
Donna and I were met by Grand Trustee Bob Hansen, his wife Pat and Special Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Rick Palanzo and his wife Karen at the hotel in White Plains, New York. After breakfast, we started out by car heading to Connecticut. On the way we stopped and were met by State President Jon Arthur, his wife Cindy and a host of other Connecticut Members. The traveling party then headed to the Waterbury Lodge #265, for a delecious luncheon and reception with the Past State Presidents and State Officers. Waterbury Lodge is the home lodge of State President Jon Arthur.

During the reception, Donna and I had the opportunity to meet and greet the Connecticut members and their guests and to present one of our pins to all in attendance. The meal was delicious and very enjoyable. Donna and I thanked the kitchen staff and the volunteers who served the meal for a job well done.
After Dinner, Donna and I addressed the membership and thanked everyone for their warm welcome and gracious hospitality. It was truly a pleasure making new friends as well as spending time with many old friends.
During my address to the membership, I thanked all the Lodges and the State Association for their community service projects and for their participation in all our Grand Lodge Programs. They are truly demonstrating my motto for this year,
“Elks – Leading the way”.
I also congratulated the membership and lodges for surpassing PGER Ron Hicks’ per capita of $4.65, to the Elks National Foundation with a per capita of $7.25 statewide.
At the Banquet, Donna and I were presented with beautiful gifts by State President Jon and his wife Cindy. Donna received a Pandora Bracelet and four Pandora Charms. I was presented with an Elks National Foundation Certificate for $1,000.00 that the State Association donated in my name. We were also presented with Connecticut Elks State shirts.
Donna and I also received gifts from twenty-one Lodges, the current District Deputies and from Mike Stewart. The gifts included checks totaling $450.00 for the ENF, $500.00 for the Veterans Memorial Trust, as well as many thoughtful personal gifts. We also signed membership cards where the members made personal donations totaling $424.00, which will be divided equally between the Elks National Foundation and the Veterans Memorial Trust to be credited to the State of Connecticut.
On Monday morning after breakfast, Donna and I and Dave and Penney Carr were off for our official visit to the State of Rhode Island.
